    1. Plan & Measure the Fence Line<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
    • Walk the property line and mark your start\/end points, corners, and gate locations.<\/li>
    • Use stakes and string<\/strong> to create a straight reference line.<\/li>
    • Measure total length so you know how many panels and posts you need.<\/li>
    • Standard vinyl panel width: 6 ft or 8 ft<\/strong> depending on brand.<\/li><\/ul>

      Pro tip:<\/strong> Vinyl panels cannot be \u201cforced\u201d into alignment. Your posts must be perfectly straight and evenly spaced.<\/p>

      2. Check Local Requirements<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
      • Hernando County typically requires:
        • Fence height \u2264 \u00a08<\/strong> ft<\/strong> in most residential zones<\/li>
        • Fence must be inside your property line<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li>
        • Call 811<\/strong> before digging to mark utilities.<\/li><\/ul>

          3. Mark Post Locations<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
          • Mark each post along the string line at the manufacturer\u2019s spacing (usually 6′ or 8′ on center<\/strong>).<\/li>
          • Mark gate posts<\/strong> separately \u2014 they require deeper holes and more concrete.<\/li><\/ul>

            4. Dig Post Holes<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>

            Typical hole size for 6′ vinyl:<\/p>

            • Depth:<\/strong> 30-36 inches<\/li>
            • Diameter:<\/strong> 10\u201312 inches<\/li><\/ul>

              If your yard slopes, decide whether you\u2019re doing:<\/p>

              • Stepped panels<\/strong> (flat panels, posts at different heights)<\/li>
              • Racked panels<\/strong> (panels that angle with the slope)<\/li><\/ul>

                5. Set Posts in Concrete<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>

                For each post:<\/p>

                1. Place the post in the hole.<\/li>
                2. Use a level<\/strong> on two sides to plumb it.<\/li>
                3. Pour concrete around the post, keeping the hollow center clear.<\/li>
                4. Slope the top of the concrete away from the post for drainage.<\/li>
                5. Re-check alignment with the string line.<\/li>

                          • Ensure the rail is fully engaged so the panel doesn\u2019t rattle.<\/li><\/ul>

                            9. Install Post Caps<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
                            • Use vinyl glue or silicone to secure caps.<\/li>
                            • Wipe away excess adhesive.<\/li><\/ul>

                              10. Install Gates<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
                              • Attach hinges to the gate frame first.<\/li>
                              • Mount the gate to the reinforced gate post.<\/li>
                              • Adjust swing and latch alignment.<\/li>
                              • Install latch hardware and any drop rods for double gates.<\/li><\/ul>

                                11. Final Inspection & Cleanup<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>
                                • Walk the fence line and check:
                                  • Posts are plumb<\/li>
                                  • Panels are level<\/li>
                                  • Rails are fully seated<\/li>

                                    • The panel-post method is the best way to ensure each section is installed tightly without gaps.<\/li>
                                    • Use cut pickets at the end of the panel (closest to the u channel) to hide the cut edge.<\/li>
                                    • Keep a measuring tape and level handy as you will use these two items on every section and post you install.<\/li>
                                    • Use 60lbs of cement per post and 120lbs for each gate hinge post.<\/li>
                                    • Check all of your heights when finished. Posts are easily adjusted (up or down) when the concrete hasn’t set yet.<\/li>
                                    • Laying out the materials in the required quantities at each hole (before installation) will save tons of time.<\/li>
